Reddish discoloration in lunch boxes

Fat, cold cuts, but also fruit and vegetables discolor lunch boxes, especially light-colored plastic boxes, over time. You can usually see shades of yellow to red. No amount of scrubbing with a sponge will help - but there is no need to throw the containers away, especially as it is only a visual unsightliness and not a lack of hygiene. But how do you get storage tins clean again?

Baking soda and baking powder
Baking soda is THE all-rounder in the household - it is a product that is used as a miracle weapon for many things, including cleaning. Just like baking powder, which in addition to its classic function can also be used for other purposes, as in this case. To clean Tupperware boxes and the like, fill the plastic box in question with hot water and add two to three tablespoons of baking soda or one to two sachets of baking powder. Leave the mixture to work overnight and wash out the box the next day. Done!

Cooking oil
Everyone has cooking oil at home, so you don't need to buy any extra. But who would have thought that cooking oil could be used to remove stubborn discoloration from plastic boxes? Simply pour some sunflower or rapeseed oil into the box and leave it to soak in for a while. Later, wipe out the lunch box first with household paper and then put it in the dishwasher or wash it by hand.

Lemon juice
This tried and tested household remedy can also be used to clean lunch boxes. Due to their acidity, lemons have a whitening effect, which benefits us when cleaning bread boxes: Simply add a little lemon juice to the box or rub it out with a cut lemon. Then rinse out the box.

If you want to prevent discoloration completely, choose lunch boxes made of metal or another material instead. However, plastic containers are often more suitable for schoolchildren because they are lightweight and practically do not break.
