High blood pressure: when should you call the emergency doctor?

Even if high blood pressure is being treated, it can suddenly rise and reach values of over 220 / 120 mmHg. If the high values are only accompanied by minor discomfort, doctors speak of a blood pressure crisis. As a rule, patients have already been told what they should do in this case: Not to panic, but to lie down and relax. But when should those affected actually call the emergency doctor?

Anyone suffering from high blood pressure should check their values regularly.

The increase is often due to forgetting to take the medication. This should be done immediately. If the values have fallen to around 160 / 100 mmHg, you should see a doctor as soon as possible. If the blood pressure remains high, immediate treatment is required.

Call 112 immediately in the event of a blood pressure emergency

However, if the sudden rise in blood pressure is accompanied by serious symptoms, this is a blood pressure emergency. Those affected should call the emergency services (112) immediately, as this could result in a heart attack, stroke or rupture of the aorta. Then say that you suspect a blood pressure emergency so that an ambulance with an emergency doctor is sent instead of an ambulance.
