Now it's time to clean up!

After a big job in the kitchen, there's a lot of housework to do. It's a good thing that there are a few ways to make tidying up easier

Clean household appliances

Pots/roasters: If the base is burnt, fill with water and organic cleaner. Soak for two hours. Then bring to the boil until the cooking residue comes off.
Waffle iron: For stuck-on food, apply a little oil to a paper towel or soft sponge and wipe out the iron. Never use steel wool! An old toothbrush is great for cleaning out the fine grooves later.
Milk frother: Hold the frothing head in the water and turn it on briefly. Then use a bottle or toothbrush to clean out any stuck-on milk residue.
Toaster: If there is no collecting tray, remove crumbs with a hand vacuum cleaner. Do not turn the appliance upside down as this causes bread residues to get caught in the heating filaments. Never wipe with a damp cloth!
Garlic press: Remove residues from pressing under running water with a toothbrush. Then wash with washing-up liquid and dry well to prevent rust from forming.

Cleaning the hob and oven

They are the most important things in our kitchen and deserve attention. This is how a general overhaul works:
Clean ceramic hobs with glass cleaner if they are slightly dirty. Spray on, leave to work and then wipe with a damp cloth and dry. Tip: Polish the glass plate with an old pair of tights to give it a particularly nice shine. You can get rid of burnt-on encrustations with a glass ceramic scraper from a household store. After soaking, you can use it to scrape off the dirt without leaving scratches. Stainless steel surfaces shine after treatment with diluted all-purpose, glass or stainless steel cleaner. But be careful: always clean when cool, otherwise there will be streaks.
Do you have enamel hobs ? Soak the dirt with washing-up liquid, vinegar or diluted citric acid and wipe well.
If you have cast iron hotplates, you should arm yourself with a spiral sponge and scouring milk. Polished with black paste (from the household store, from four euros), the plates will shine like new again.
Remove the grids from the gas burner , soak in hot water and washing-up liquid in the bath and dry.
You can make the oven grease-free with washing soda - no matter what material it is made of. Mix a special solution: add 6 tablespoons of soda and 1 teaspoon of all-purpose cleaner to a bucket of warm water. Apply with a sponge, leave to work and wipe off.

Stains on the tablecloth

Red wine: If it has stained cotton or linen, treat the stain with liquid bleach. On colored laundry, dissolve the wine with a pre-wash spray.
Chocolate: Scrape off solid stains as best you can with a blunt knife. Soak and clean with a detergent containing enzymes.
Coffee: First rinse the tablecloth while warm. Soak in borax solution and then put in the machine.
Grease: There are good grease remover sprays with solvents on the market. If the grease has splashed onto the silk, dry cleaning is the only solution.
Wax: Place the stained item in the freezer or spray with a cold spray. Reason: "Shock-frozen" wax crumbles and can be removed with a knife.
Red cabbage: One of the trickiest! It is best to add a bleaching stain remover before washing with an enzyme-containing detergent.
Colored pencil: Dissolve baking soda powder in warm mineral water and dab onto the stains until they are gone.
Sauce: Rinse fresh stains with distilled water. Soak dried stains first in stain remover containing enzymes, then treat them in the washing machine as hot as possible.
