Feeling connected to nature again

More and more men and women in this country have discovered their green heart and spend time in the garden several times a month. What is particularly striking is that this is now also very popular with young city dwellers. One of the main reasons for this development is that nature is a great place to retreat to. Here we can forget everyday life and its worries for a moment. Some city dwellers even yearn for nature so much that they grow vegetables and/or create flower beds on fallow land or rooftops. This is known as "urban gardening".

What other reasons are there?

People who work in the garden want to feel connected to Mother Earth again. But also to feel themselves more again. It is also a meaningful activity. When everything grows well and thrives, it makes you happy and satisfied. Especially when the vegetables are harvested. The health effect of spending time in the garden can even be increased! The effect is said to be particularly good when we have contact with other people we like while working. After all, this social integration is additional refreshment for the soul.

Sick people recover faster

Fresh air and plants are not only good for healthy people, but also for sick people. Experts recently pointed this out at the Garden and Medicine Congress, which took place in Berlin. An important effect: sick people who are surrounded by trees, shrubs, meadows and flowers generally recover faster and better because it strengthens the body's defenses. The first clinics in Germany have long since recognized this, for example the Mittelrhein-Klinik in Boppard, the Kraichtal-Kliniken in northern Baden and the Hattingen Clinic in the southern Ruhr region. Patients here can already stroll through green spaces.

Stock up on vitamin N regularly

Gardening is also a great therapy. For patients suffering from depression, for example. Weeding, digging and watering should gradually bring them out of their passivity. They should have the feeling of being needed again. The American environmental activist and author Richard Louv is also a big fan of the "green wave". He advises: " Experience nature consciously. Move around in it and recharge your batteries. He refers to the positive effects this brings as vitamin N. N stands for nature.
