What is different from juice?
Grape juice is obviously an alternative to wine if you want to enjoy the benefits but without the alcohol content. To the ears of wine fans, however, this sounds like little consolation. And even when toasting with guests, the same mood may not arise. The real, but still little-known alternative is non-alcoholic wine. The most significant difference to grape juice is that the grapes are first fermented, just like in the production of alcoholic wines. Only this process produces the aromas so typical of wine, which no grape juice can replace.
The key to production therefore lies in removing the alcohol from the end product. Traditional distillation, probably the most common method of separating alcohol, is not an option because the high temperatures during this process not only cause the alcohol to evaporate, but also the aromas. Vacuum evaporation solves this problem, as do modern centrifuges, and gently separates the alcohol from the remaining aromatic liquid. The result: a real wine without alcohol! However, caution is advised if you are aiming for an uncompromising alcohol-free wine. A minimal residual alcohol content also remains with this method, but is below the legally prescribed value of 0.5% for declaration. The end product may not be labeled as wine in Germany.
Does it taste good?
A pleasant side effect: alcohol is responsible for a large proportion of the calories in wine. So no alcohol content means considerably fewer calories. The result sounds too good to be true: Enjoying wine while abstaining from alcohol and sticking to the New Year's diet at the same time? Can it taste good? As with "normal" wine, it simply depends on the quality (and your individual taste). If you're looking for quality, then the experts at vinoa.de recommend the Natureo Free product line from top winery Miguel Torres - no more alcohol content than a malt beer, but full of wine enjoyment!
