The symptoms are physical and psychological

The hormones of the menstrual cycle play the decisive role - they go on a rollercoaster, so to speak. The hormonal confusion in the female body can cause more than 150 symptoms, and they are not always the same. The unpleasant symptoms always appear ten to 14 days before menstruation begins. They subside again in the first two days of the menstrual period - only to start all over again during the cycle. The symptoms include Tightness in the breasts, abdominal pain, loss of appetite or food cravings, indigestion, headaches, back pain, blemished skin.

The exact cause has not yet been researched

There can also be massive mood swings, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, concentration problems or aggression. The exact cause is still unclear.

Herbal preparations and hormones can help

But something can be done about it: calcium, vitamin B6 or magnesium can help, as can herbal preparations made from monk's pepper or evening primrose oil. Some women find tiger lily, black cohosh or cyclamen helpful. If things don't get better, the gynecologist can prescribe hormones.
