It's all in the milk: Is it healthy or not?

For a long time, it was the epitome of healthy food. However, many people now believe that milk is harmful. We explain why this is not true.

Milk is not only a good source of calcium, it also keeps you full for a long time and reduces the risk of diabetes.

According to studies, milk is a real all-rounder when it comes to health and not at all as intolerable as many claim. The higher the fat content of milk, the better it is for our bodies. This is because milk contains more than 400 different fatty acids!

Turbo for the metabolism

The calcium in milk is not only supposed to keep our bones strong, it can even help us on a diet - according to the German nutritionist Franca Mangiameli in her book "Die Milchdiät - Abnehmen mit dem Kalzium-Kick". Her theory: milk calcium binds fat that we absorb through food and ensures that it is excreted undigested and not stored as a cushion. Milk is said to inhibit the build-up of fat and even activate fat burning.

Against cravings

Whole milk in particular has a satiating effect, as it stays in the stomach for longer due to its higher fat content. An Australian study was also able to prove that people who drink a large glass of milk in addition to their usual breakfast do not feel hungry for many hours and subsequently eat less, i.e. consume fewer calories overall. One thing is clear: milk is a food and NOT a thirst quencher. So if you drink milk like water or juice by the liter, you shouldn't be surprised if you gain weight.

Reduces the risk of diabetes

A good reason - even for the figure-conscious - to reach for whole milk again. Scientists at Tufts University in the US city of Boston examined the blood of 3,000 adults over a period of 15 years and found out: People who enjoy full-fat dairy products more often are much less likely to be overweight and, on top of that, only half as likely to develop diabetes.
