Germans love their coffee - and it has good qualities. As always, it's the measure that counts.

Many coffee-loving households have a coffee machine. The coffee capsules for Nespresso can be purchased at reasonable prices so that new flavors can be tasted again and again. In most cases, the desired effect is simply that our circulation gets going or that the pastries taste better. But it's not just the circulation-boosting effect that should be taken into account.

It used to be considered unhealthy

If you talk to older people or read magazines from days long gone, it is always emphasized that coffee is unhealthy. This is due to the results of numerous studies which stated that coffee drinkers have a shorter lifespan. However, time and time again, errors can be seen in repetitions of these studies in today's world. For example, the high mortality rate of coffee consumers was mostly caused by the combination of smoking and coffee consumption. The effect of caffeine is also vastly underestimated. Although the acceleration of the heartbeat could potentially be evaluated as negative, it has been shown time and again that there are numerous positive aspects for the consumer. For example, caffeine causes the bronchial tubes to dilate so that significantly more oxygen is transported. People generally become more alert and concentrated. It also triggers the urge to urinate, which flushes the body. It should certainly be noted that an overdose of caffeine has no positive effect on people. If you suffer from tremors or palpitations, you should consult a doctor immediately.

Does coffee dehydrate the body?

It has also often been assumed that coffee dehydrates the body. By drinking coffee, people believe that they are taking in sufficient fluids, whereas coffee dehydrates them. The consequences are headaches and nausea as well as long-term symptoms. Today, however, it can be said with certainty that coffee does not dehydrate the body. Only the diuretic effect has been proven. However, this does not result in significantly more fluid being excreted. The quantities are small, so that the effect is hardly noticeable. One clearly noticeable effect of coffee, however, is its effect on the gastrointestinal tract. After just half a cup of coffee, most people feel a clear urge to go to the toilet. Digestion is stimulated. However, be careful not to consume too much coffee if you experience discomfort from bitter substances. People who do not like bitter substances usually suffer from an irritated stomach lining after drinking coffee. This can manifest itself in stomach pain.

How is coffee linked to diabetes?

Another finding of the scientists shows that coffee has a significant effect on the risk of diabetes. If you drink your coffee naturally without sugar or fatty cream, you can reduce the risk of developing diabetes. Coffee contains numerous substances. To date, it is not possible to say with certainty which ingredient is decisive in reducing the risk: however, numerous animal experiments have shown that some substances delay the transfer of glucose into the blood, while others significantly improve insulin sensitivity. It has also been shown that this effect can also be attributed to a decaffeinated drink.
