Ramen: The Japanese noodle trend

Ramen has recently conquered the world: whether in America, Australia or Europe - everyone is slurping up this delicious and filling mixture of noodle dish and soup. Here we tell you exactly what ramen is and how to prepare it.

Ramen is the national dish of the Japanese - healthy fast food, so to speak. The noodles themselves are called ramen, but so is the soup.

Noodles as the basis

The basis of the dish is the noodles and these are (almost) always made in the same way. They simply consist of wheat flour, salt and water. However, at least some restaurants make their own noodles. They use ready-made ramen noodles. You can find these in well-stocked Asian stores.

Strong broths are the secret

The broth makes the decisive difference. It is prepared differently depending on the region and preferences and therefore tastes different everywhere. For example, it can be based on soy sauce (shoyu ramen), with miso paste (miso ramen) or by boiling pork bones for a long time (tonkotsu ramen). The side dishes usually consist of meat, fish, vegetables and egg. Of course, the delicious soup is also available as a purely vegetarian option.
