Finding a good and qualified childminder is no longer easy these days. A quarter of all childminders in Germany are inadequately trained.

Your own child is the most important thing in the world. If we leave it in someone else's care, then only to someone who is loving and knows what needs a child has and what attention it needs. We take all this for granted with a childminder. This makes what the Ministry of Family Affairs has now announced all the more alarming: a quarter of all childminders in Germany are inadequately trained. But what does that mean if I want to find a childminder? And how can I check this?

Finding a childminder: The requirements

Not everyone who calls themselves a childminder is one. Because only those who have completed a 160-hour course in childcare are really qualified. In addition, trained childminders must have completed a first aid course for infants and toddlers. They must also have a care permit from the youth welfare office. Parents should ask the prospective childminder to present these documents.

Reliable placement

The best address for this is the youth welfare office: Here you can get in touch with certified childminders. Alternatively, the office can also refer you to recognized providers such as the childminder association.

Getting to know each other

Arrange a non-binding meeting with the childminder for a personal discussion. Ask yourself: Is the chemistry right? This is the basic requirement. In addition, you should ask for a written concept in which the potential candidate describes a normal daily routine with the child and her priorities
