Effective beauty sleep: do something good for your skin and hair at night

A restful beauty sleep is like a natural wonder weapon for a youthful glow. When we go to sleep, a time of relaxation begins for us, but for the skin, the work is just beginning. The right hair and skin care products help it to do just that - for a rosy complexion.

Slept well? Great! We spend a third of our lives in bed - and this is vital for the body.

Helping the skin - it works differently at night

Can't I just use the same cream at night as usual? Better not. Because which cream is the right one and when depends not only on the skin type and its needs, but actually also on the time of day. While the skin is programmed to defend itself against UV rays and environmental pollution during the day, at night it is time for repair processes and cell renewal.

Depending on the time of day, the moisture content, pH value, skin temperature and activity of the sebaceous glands also fluctuate. At midnight, the facial skin's sebum production is at its lowest, which is why night creams can be richer than day care, for example. In addition, the skin's cell division works up to ten times faster at night than during the day, which means that nourishing active ingredients can be optimally absorbed at this time. This is why anti-ageing creams and serums with ingredients such as vitamins B and E or retinol are particularly useful in the evening.

The skin is also happy to receive an extra portion of moisture in the form of face masks with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, as it has released a lot of it during the day and the skin barrier is particularly permeable at night.

Calm down - celebrate bedtime rituals

Just fall asleep? This is often easier said than done. Ring in your nightly regeneration phase with a nice relaxing bath with a few drops of lavender essential oil. This calms the nerves and has a relaxing effect. Pamper your body with a rich body butter that provides intensive moisture and then snuggle up in your fluffy bathrobe. Make yourself a warm tea with valerian, for example, and make sure your bedroom is completely dark and the room temperature is no more than 18 degrees. If you can't fall asleep straight away because your thoughts just won't stop, put a notepad and pen on your bedside table - once you've written down everything that's on your mind, your head will finally be able to rest.

Happy hair - beauty sleep for your hair

When we say goodbye to slumberland, we should treat not only our skin but also our hair to a fresh cell treatment. Especially if your hair is brittle, a special "overnight" hair treatment can unleash its full nourishing power. It can be rinsed out in the shower in the morning and the day can begin with a smooth mane. And another tip: If you are prone to split ends, you may be sleeping on the wrong pillow, such as one made of cotton. The natural fiber is sometimes quite rough and can damage the hair structure during sleep, which in turn leads to split ends. The solution: a silk pillowcase. Sweet dreams!
