Why swimming is the healthiest sport

It's the healthiest way to exercise, say doctors, and it's three times as effective as jogging. Incidentally, swimming is the third most popular sport in our list. And that's why you should do your laps in the water two to three times a week.

Summer, sun ... swimming! Off into the cool water - it's so beneficial and healthy.

The joints are not strained

In the water, a person weighs only a seventh of their weight, which is why swimming is the best choice for overweight people in particular. This is because the extra kilos do not put any strain on the joints. This sport is also ideal for patients with osteoarthritis or back problems.

Mild tension in the neck is relieved

Arms, legs, stomach, back, neck - swimming gets all of these moving and strengthens them. The arm movements relieve tension in the neck and shoulder area. The water pressure also has a light massage effect - which even helps to relieve headaches.

This sport makes the kilos tumble faster

Just half an hour of leisurely breaststroke swimming burns over 200 calories. The figures vary. It is also said that half an hour is equivalent to about an hour of fitness training on land. The reason for this is the water resistance against which you have to swim and the cool water temperature: the body has to use a lot of energy to maintain its own temperature.

Swimming is really good for your heart and circulation

The increased pressure in the water compresses the blood vessels slightly - this pumps more blood to the heart. This means that fewer beats per minute are needed to supply the body with oxygen. The heart rate drops and the organ works more economically. Exercise stimulates blood circulation, which also strengthens the veins. The return transport of blood to the heart is supported. And last but not least: it puts you in a good mood, because you relax better in the water and stress is reduced.
