If you swap one hour of sitting for one hour of exercise every day, you increase your chances of survival in old age by around 15 percent - calculated over a period of four years.
Live longer: walking gently exercises the body
Walking is ideal. The even and rather light exertion trains the body very gently, but thoroughly. The heart, circulatory system, lungs and other internal organs benefit immensely from such a daily breath of fresh air. This has already been shown in previous studies. But walking or cycling also have this healthy effect. The main thing is to exercise evenly.
Sleeping is better than sitting
Even those who sit down for an hour instead of sitting will, with a bit of luck, live longer. Their chances of survival increase by five percent over the course of four years.
Even sleeping is better than sitting. Because many people go to bed too late these days and are therefore chronically sleep-deprived, it is better for them to hit the hay than to spend an extra hour in front of the TV. This will save them extra time.
