Yummy! Make your own American Twinkies the easy way

In the USA, they are almost a standard household treat, but unfortunately you won't find them in our supermarkets: we're talking about "Twinkies", a sweet pastry made from fluffy dough with a creamy filling. Passionate baker Mira shows on her YouTube channel "BakeClub" how to bake this sticky sin yourself.

What are Twinkies?

For those who have yet to enjoy this sweet treat, here's a brief explanation: Twinkies are small cakes made from sponge or sponge cake dough and filled with vanilla cream.

Twinkies were invented around 1930 by the baker James A. Dewar, who worked for Continental Bakeries in Illinois. Due to the shortage of strawberries at the end of the season, he simply replaced the filling of his cakes with a banana cream. When there was also a shortage of bananas during the Second World War, the Twinkies were filled with a vanilla cream instead.

True USA fans will know the problem: Many of the treats from the States are simply not available in Germany. Fortunately, many of these delicacies can be baked at home. This includes the delicious mini cakes with cream filling. Here we show you what you need and how it works.
