Originally, Lent had a religious background: in early Christianity, abstaining from solid food was intended to commemorate the 40 days that Jesus spent fasting and praying in the desert. Fasting: our body thanks us

It may be hard, especially at the beginning. But our body thanks us for fasting: depriving ourselves of food lowers blood lipid levels and blood pressure, and removes fat from the liver and muscles. Many of us eat the wrong foods: too much sugar, too many sugary proteins, too many saturated fats. It is precisely for this reason that millions of people in Germany regularly detox - the majority of them women. For a week, they don't eat any solid food, but instead drink water, tea, fruit juices or vegetable broth. What sounds like rigid self-punishment is experienced quite differently by fasting fans: They feel an inner cleansing, recharge their batteries, feel lightness and contentment. Their heads clear, they feel more open, balanced and relaxed, connected with themselves. And fasting sensitizes the senses: tastes intensify, scents are perceived more clearly.

If you want to fast, you have to be healthy

Fasting is not recommended for everyone: The body has to be healthy if you are going to subject it to such radical renunciation. And all beginnings are difficult: in the first few days, the body ruthlessly points out its weak points.
