How to care for your skin after 40

It's scientifically proven: We appear and look much younger than we actually are - hooray! Of course, we know that we are getting older every day and that this is all too visible in the form of fine lines, pale or sagging skin and gray hair. Unless we do something about it. Fortunately, there are a few things we can and should do for ourselves. Here are four effective anti-ageing tips:

Anti-ageing tip 1: A firmer complexion

It is a natural process for the skin to lose firmness and elasticity over the years. This process starts in our mid-20s, when the production of collagen fibers, which form the supporting corset of the skin, store moisture and make it look firm and plump, decreases. What's more, fewer of these fibers are now being produced (also due to hormonal factors). This is why it is so important to follow our first anti-ageing tip: cream, cream, cream... Preferably with highly effective skincare (see below). We should also drink a lot, at least two liters of water or unsweetened tea a day, get enough sleep and of course avoid stress, alcohol and nicotine as much as possible.

Anti-ageing tip 2: Velvety soft skin

The neck, décolleté and hands are often overlooked or even completely forgotten when it comes to skin care! However, the skin here is particularly thin and sensitive. This is why it tends to form wrinkles more quickly. Rich care - either in the form of a mask or a cream with sun protection - replenishes the moisture deposits and makes the skin look plump and smooth. A gentle peeling once a week removes old and dry skin cells and gives the skin a rosy, fresh glow again.

Anti-ageing tip 3: Bright white teeth

As we get older, our teeth also become darker and often take on a slightly yellowish tinge. However, because bright white teeth make you look younger, you should have discoloration and tartar removed and gently polished away by your dentist on a regular basis. In addition, brush your teeth with whitening toothpaste.

Anti-ageing tip 4: A hairstyle to suit your type

The hairstyle should not look too deliberate or too styled. Heavily tousled hair or helmet hairstyles emphasized with hairspray make us look older, harder and more severe. A layered cut with bangs, fringes and highlights, on the other hand, makes facial features appear softer and younger. Regular visits to the hairdresser are of course essential to keep hair looking shiny, healthy and well-groomed.

The best care ingredients with an anti-ageing effect

All good things come in threes! This power trio is simply unbeatable in the fight against signs of ageing!

Q10

Q10 is indispensable for the metabolism: it supplies the cells with energy and strengthens the immune system. The antioxidant effect of Q10 fends off free radicals, which are responsible for skin ageing. As the body's own production decreases over the years, we make up the deficit with creams.

Retinol

Strictly speaking, retinol is the pure form of vitamin A. Because the ageing process and UV radiation deprive the skin of vitamin A, not enough can be produced - which becomes visible in the form of loss of elasticity and wrinkles. It's good that we can replenish the depots with retinol care.

Hyaluronic acid

This gel-like moisture magnet is produced by connective tissue cells and is a real all-rounder that plumps up the skin and intercepts free radicals. From the age of 25, the depots are slowly depleted and the skin's elasticity decreases. From the age of 40, this is reflected in deeper wrinkles. Time to help from the outside ...
