Sometimes you simply need a change in life. Be it because the old you no longer seems suitable or because a drastic life event has taken place. Sometimes you also feel trapped in a state of stagnation and feel like you could do with a breath of fresh air. There are many good reasons to reinvent yourself. It is not uncommon for a phase of change and upheaval to be followed by a deep sense of having arrived. It doesn't matter whether you turn your life upside down in one fell swoop - or take small, steady steps towards change. We have five tips to help you get started and tackle small or large changes.
#1: Get to know yourself better
Everyone goes through different phases in the course of their life: We experience things, we change, we grow. You are no longer the person you were ten years ago. This gives you the opportunity to get to know yourself again and again with curiosity and goodwill. To do this, observe yourself in everyday life: In which moments do you feel good? What activities do you enjoy? What do you like to do? When do you get really angry? Are there things that you are good at - and others that you find really difficult?
Your identity is not set in stone. Perhaps at some point you will realize that basic characteristics have changed over the years. Self-knowledge also involves becoming aware of your own goals and values. What do you want to achieve in the next five, ten or 15 years? Are you still on the right track? If not, it's probably time to realign yourself.
#2: Change your appearance
Perhaps you are familiar with the phenomenon of women who have just gone through a break-up getting a new hairstyle? Fashion, hairstyles and accessories ensure that we are perceived in a certain way by others. The way they react to us in turn influences how we feel. So during periods of change, it makes sense to give your wardrobe a complete overhaul. Think about whether the clothes you are wearing really still suit you. If you wear contact lenses, try wearing extravagant branded glasses for a change and vice versa. Change your hair color. Be brave. Try something new!
Tip #3: Look for role models
Sometimes it's not so easy to know exactly where you want to go in life. But perhaps you know that unpleasant feeling of envy when someone has achieved something that you would also like to have achieved? Don't push it away! Instead, use it as a reference point for your own growth: find out how this person got to their goal. Let yourself be inspired by other people's life journeys instead of being dissatisfied with your own level of development.
Tip #4: Take your dreams seriously
For years there has been that thing you would like to try - a new hobby, a new job, further training, learning an instrument? But whenever the desire arises, it is immediately suppressed because it doesn't seem realistic to you? Sometimes life circumstances and everyday obligations can make it difficult to change something. But even these are not set in stone. Record your dreams somewhere - in a diary, for example, or as a picture that you place somewhere clearly visible. Opportunities will arise.
Try to achieve your goal in small steps:
- Do you want to take a trip around the world? Put some money aside every month.
- Would you like to start your own fashion label? Start by teaching yourself to sew.
- Want to run a marathon? Start with one kilometer.
Tip #5: Meditate
The first step to changing yourself is to recognize yourself. To do this, it is important to create moments of tranquillity in which you can find yourself - not so easy in hectic everyday life! However, a regular meditation practice can be such an island of calm. Many people who start meditating report moments of great clarity in which they suddenly see the next action in front of them. Try to set aside a few moments once a day for this. If time is short, you can achieve noticeable results in just five to ten minutes a day. You will see - life will feel different.
