Anyone who suffers from hair loss in winter should not be alarmed straight away. Especially in the darker months of the year, the body increasingly replaces hair that has fallen out. This seasonal hair loss is therefore also referred to as hair change. This is the reason why more hair than usual is found in the comb or is washed out at this time of year, as well as in winter and spring. For experts, this is no cause for concern. They recommend waiting until the new hair has grown back.
What helps against hair loss?
However, men and women can do a few things in advance to keep their hair healthy: Healthy hair comes from within, starting with the right diet. This is how hair loss can be prevented in winter. But what helps against hair loss?
Eat a balanced diet to give your hair the vitamins (especially A, B and C) and minerals it needs. Protein should also be included. Good sources of protein are sunflower seeds, nuts and tuna. Avoid too much sugar, salt and animal fats. Drink plenty of mineral water. Skin and hair also need to be moisturized from the inside.
Too much coffee is harmful. It accelerates the breakdown of vitamins in the body and makes the tissues more acidic - which is not good for the hair roots. If you are already suffering from hair loss in the fall and winter, you should limit yourself to one or two cups of coffee a day. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo suitable for your hair type. If you have dyed or permed hair, you should regularly use strengthening treatments.
Long diets are dangerous for your hair
Another important way to prevent hair loss in winter is to avoid too much stress and get enough sleep. Younger women in particular, who are under a lot of stress, sometimes lose their hair for this very reason. Permanent diets that deprive the body of important nutrients over a long period of time are also dangerous. The hair roots then no longer have enough strength to grow new hair.
