25% of the population of industrialized countries are affected by tinnitus in the course of their lives

Biggest cause: stress

Every year, around a quarter of a million people in Germany suffer from chronic tinnitus. One of the main causes can be stress. Anyone who now thinks that this is due to our increasingly hectic, networked world is mistaken: even thousands of years ago, people such as Charles Darwin and Martin Luther, who were under particular strain throughout their lives, suffered from ringing in the ears.

What causes stress in the body

When a person is under stress, the body is on alert. Once the pressure is over and the body calms down, the hormone cortisol is released so that we can calm down and relax. However, tinnitus patients show a delayed and greatly reduced release of cortisol after a stressful situation. They seem to find it more difficult to calm down. When stress levels are high, more platelets are produced, which means that the blood becomes thicker, making blood circulation and oxygen supply to the very small hair cells in the ear more difficult. If these cells are undersupplied, they become more susceptible to the incorrect processing of sounds. With constant stress, tinnitus is virtually pre-programmed.

This provides relief

From 3 months, doctors speak of chronic tinnitus. At this stage, the brain has literally learned the sound and stored it as important. It is therefore very difficult to get rid of the tinnitus. But there are remedies that can reduce the ringing in the ears.

Above all, relaxation and stress reduction. Everyone has to find their own strategy here - more regular breaks, more exercise or yoga can help,

This is what Dr. Uso Walter advises his tinnitus patients. Herbal remedies such as gingko extract also help. It can help to improve stress-related circulatory disorders of the inner ear. Studies show that the regular intake of gingko tablets (e.g. Tebonin) can have a positive effect on reducing the overall stress caused by ringing in the ears.
