Water tap
Broken pipes or recontamination due to water flowing too slowly can be a reason for high germ contamination. It is always best to let the water run a little before using it for cleaning or cooking.
Tea towels
They are only used for drying hands or dishes. But this is precisely why wet or even just damp tea towels - in combination with the heat in the kitchen - are the ideal breeding ground for microbes. So change, change, change and always machine wash at 90 to 95 degrees.
Sink
After old dishwashing sponges, this is the biggest bacteria spinner in the kitchen. Why is that? The leftover food that gets stuck in the drain and is a real feast for bacteria. There are around 166,000 microorganisms on every square centimeter! So don't rinse off leftover food, put it in the garbage can. Also: clean and dry frequently.
Handles
Whether on the fridge, kitchen cupboards or the door: we spread bacteria and germs every time we touch them. What can help? Clean handles regularly and wash your hands often. Especially when cooking.
