
1 The peeler lives up to its name. When it is really sharp, it peels carrots, cucumber, potatoes, kohlrabi, fruit etc. very thinly and therefore saves waste. Trick: you can sharpen it yourself with a nail file.

7 Preserving is all the rage and preserves seasonal or over-bought fruit and vegetables: For delicious chutney, dice 500 g of fruit and vegetables and steam in 2 tbsp of oil. Simmer for 45 minutes with spices, herbs, 100 g sugar and 200 ml white wine vinegar. Pour immediately into sterile screw-top jars, seal. Keeps for 4 months.
8 Never go shopping without a shopping list and check the fridge and pantry beforehand to avoid double and spontaneous purchases.
9 If you are buying food for a meal on the same day or the next day anyway, consciously choose products with a short best-before date.
10 From leftover lunches to cakes - the freezer is your best friend for preserving food. Once chopped and packed in portions, seasonal fruit and vegetables stay fresh for up to twelve months.
