Hearty and hearty, but regional please
Spring is already in the starting blocks, but it's still definitely stew and soup time, as it's still only single-digit temperatures outside. How practical that you can still get all the tasty ingredients you need regionally in March. Leeks, parsnips, Brussels sprouts and spinach are now available fresh from your trusted farmer. There should also still be plenty in stock in the supermarkets. Turnips, potatoes, carrots, beet, red cabbage, swedes, white cabbage and savoy cabbage are currently available regionally.
You will have to be patient a little longer when it comes to regional fruit. Even in March, you will only be able to buy apples and possibly a few pears regionally.
Why buy regional?
Strawberries in December, pumpkins in August - we can actually get everything all year round. However, in most cases we are not aware of what we are doing to the environment. The price we pay for this freedom is quite high. The long transportation routes destroy the climate, produce is grown in regions that suffer from water shortages and, ultimately, the fruit and vegetables hardly taste good once they have practically circumnavigated the globe.
