For body and soul: yoga fascia training

Offenburg sports therapist Katharina Brinkmann knows how important yoga fascia training is. The expert explains why on "Idea for me".

Fasciae are a very important part of the connective tissue, they have an influence on our muscles, our posture and our movement. Training the fascia with yoga makes it supple. In the long term, yoga can loosen the fascia and eliminate back pain. It involves stretching in flowing movements. Katharina Brinkmann knows the most important yoga fascia exercises.

Why is yoga so important for the fascia?

It is now known that the causes of back pain and tension can also be tight fascia. The focus is therefore quite rightly on the fasciae. It has to be said that research is still in its infancy. However, there are many well-founded results from which training recommendations for practice can be derived.

What is different about yoga fascia training compared to yoga alone?

Yoga is an excellent fascia workout thanks to the stretching exercises. However, many yoga styles involve holding positions for quite a long time. In yoga fascia training, they are dynamic so that the whole body is in motion. By changing direction while stretching, the fascia network is stretched in many directions.

Is this also something for the inexperienced?

Yes, absolutely. There are simple training sequences for beginners. In principle, you can also get started on your own. However, I recommend that beginners attend a course at
where the yoga fascia exercises are explained in detail. The instructor can keep an eye on how you're doing the exercises and you'll also get interesting background information.

What should you keep in mind?

The most important thing: patience! Fascia reacts much more slowly than muscles. They need up to two years to fully regenerate. All you need to do is train once a week, but do so consistently. Fascia loves movement. So take every flight of stairs and go for a walk.

Do you have to have a fascia roll?

Yes, because the aim is to press out old collagen and replace it with new collagen. The fascia roller or fascia ball has a massage-like effect. Too little pressure is built up with a rolled
towel. The roll is available from specialist retailers for as little as 20 euros, or a tennis ball will do.

Why is yoga fascia training also good for the soul?

Fascia yoga addresses the body on different levels. Physically through the stretching exercises: The rocking and springing or the bouncing exercises are simply fun. The calm exercises help us to relax, get rid of stress, recharge our batteries and clear our heads.
