As much as we enjoy the summer, we constantly have the feeling that we're not getting enough sleep. And that's the way it is: the heat doesn't let you breathe properly at night, clothes and bedding stick to your body. And if the mosquitoes haven't kept you on your toes during the actual night's sleep, we're upright in bed at the very first light of dawn at the latest: that's when the birds start their extensive chirping. So in summer, we often only get a handful of sleep. So how do you manage to enjoy the most beautiful time of the year reasonably awake and rested?

Sleep well in the heat: don't let the heat into the bedroom
Easy to say? No, also done. Keep the bedroom window closed during the day and draw the curtains. The darker, the better. Only open the window in the evening when the air outside has cooled down. Then make sure there is a draught so that the air is exchanged. If neither light nor noise outside disturb you, you can sleep with the window open on warm nights. Tip: Attach a fly curtain to the window to keep mosquitoes out!
Sleep better with light bed linen
In summer, use light, absorbent or cool materials such as cotton, linen or silk. If it is really warm, do without the ticking and just cover yourself with the comforter or a sheet.
Drink and eat properly
We should drink more in summer because we sweat more. However, to avoid having to go out all night, you should find the right balance in the evening. To sleep well in the heat, lukewarm teas are particularly recommended in the evening instead of ice-cold drinks - the latter stimulate sweat production. Eat light, preferably lukewarm or cold dishes such as salads with poultry, vegetable dishes with fish or yoghurt with fruit. Avoid hot, spicy and sweat-inducing foods.
Sleep well in the heat with a lukewarm shower
Now for an ice-cold shower! Of course, this feels good at first - but like cold drinks, hot and spicy foods, it makes you sweat. With cold water, the blood vessels constrict and the body is less able to release the stored heat. So it's better to enjoy a lukewarm shower!
