Prehabilitation: less pain and quicker mobility
Gone are the days when we had to wait anxiously for our operation date and hope that everything would go well and that we would be back on our feet quickly. Now we can contribute to the success of the operation and our recovery ourselves. Although Preha is still a fairly new facility, there are already some studies on it, albeit small ones. They clearly demonstrate the benefits: the build-up program not only trains the muscles and the entire musculoskeletal system, it also strengthens the heart, circulation and breathing, boosts the immune system and reduces pain. It is often observed that Preha patients are more relaxed and less anxious about the operation. All of these factors help us to get through an operation better, shorten subsequent rehabilitation and get us mobile and fit for everyday life again more quickly.
No matter which procedure - all patients benefit
Preha benefits patients who are about to undergo orthopaedic surgery. Whether it's back, knee or hip surgery - if the surrounding muscles are in good shape, the whole body will get back into better shape afterwards. Studies also show that Preha Fitness has many benefits during cardiac surgery, major abdominal surgery and cancer treatment. Complications occur less frequently because the cardiovascular system and lungs are more resilient. In addition, physical fitness also strengthens the soul and Preha has an important psychological function.

Fitness, strength or both? It's all in the mix!
It's tempting to take your Preha into your own hands and get started straight away - whether on the exercise bike or on the gym mat. But be careful, the training should be tailored to your individual situation. For example, different exercises are advisable before knee surgery than before back surgery. It also depends on whether you want to build up your stamina and endurance, for example before cardiac surgery, or whether you want to focus on muscle strength or both. It's all about the right mix. We can achieve a lot of good with the right training on equipment or on the mat, but sometimes the opposite with the wrong exercises. So get the doctor's okay before you start.
Prehabilitation: start preparing for surgery four to six weeks in advance
How do I achieve perfect prehabilitation? Your attending doctor and the team at the clinic are usually the people to contact. They can determine the program and intensity of a Preha and then refer patients to a physiotherapy practice or a medically certified fitness studio with a prescription. Professionals work there who put together an individually tailored training plan, monitor the correct execution of the exercises and also show the correct use of equipment. Ideally, we should start Preha four to six weeks before the surgery date. This is a sensible way to bridge the waiting time for a scheduled operation, which is often delayed due to the pandemic anyway.

A healthy diet strengthens the body and immune system
We can also use the time before a planned operation in other ways to support the success of the procedure. We should remain as active as possible in everyday life and, for example, cycle, go for a walk... We should also eat and drink healthily. Food advice is often offered as part of Preha. After all, a balanced diet is one of the foundations of physical fitness and boosts the immune system. So we can look forward to the surgery date with confidence and rely on our muscles and immune system forming a strong team.
