Stuck fasciae: How the tissue becomes strong again

Romping around outside with the little ones, completing a shopping marathon or pottering around in the garden - all this is great fun, but you often feel exhausted afterwards and experience pain and tension. Many people blame this on age-related wear and tear, but very few have acidosis on their minds.

Excess acid in the connective tissue can lead to sticky fascia.

Less discomfort due to acid reduction

However, excess acid in the connective tissue can be the reason why everything hurts. Especially if muscles or joints have already been damaged. "Then the pain can even get worse," says Prof. Jürgen Vormann, a nutritionist from Ismaning. "However, the tissue can regenerate through acid degradation, and muscles and joints will soon be more flexible again."

A slowed metabolism makes you tired

In the past, the term "acid rigidity" was used in this context, but today it is referred to as sticky fascia. This refers to the whitish connective tissue that connects joints and organs and is important for the interaction of muscles and nerves. If the fascia loses its elasticity and sticks together because it is permanently over-acidified, this can lead to joint, shoulder and back pain. "Other signs of acidity in the body are tiredness and exhaustion," says Prof. Vormann, "because the metabolism slows down as a result."

The be-all and end-all: an alkaline-rich diet

Fascia training, which is currently very popular, can help to keep the connective tissue in good shape and get rid of complaints. However, the exercises alone do not "untangle" the fascia. Rather, the acid-base balance must also be brought back into balance. If it is constantly "clogged up" with acid-forming substances such as sugar, white flour, meat or coffee, the body starts to go on strike. With an alkaline diet, however, you can restore balance to a derailed acid-base balance. At least half of a meal should consist of salad, vegetables and fruit. You also need to drink enough (approx. 2 liters a day), such as water or herbal teas - these have an alkaline effect and help to flush out acids. Studies have also shown that taking alkaline minerals, which neutralize excess acids, has proven effective. Prof. Vormann: "Just four weeks' intake can alleviate chronic back pain, for example. After that, patients need less painkillers."

Relaxing time-outs are also helpful

And because constant power and stress also strain the metabolism and promote acidosis, we should allow ourselves time out more often. Breathing exercises, relaxation methods such as yoga, massages or relaxation baths help to reduce stress. Speaking of which, you can also deacidify your skin with an alkaline bath.
