Slow down biological age: how to eat younger!

It's not a question of your year of birth: You can determine your biological age yourself with a healthy lifestyle. Here you can find out which foods are considered to be real anti-ageing boosters and which you should stay away from.

How is our biological age influenced?

In addition to environmental influences and stress, an unhealthy diet in particular causes our cells to age faster and therefore shortens our life expectancy. However, this also means: "You are largely in control of your health and therefore your age and can still make a difference." The physician Prof. Dr. Kurscheid believes this and refers to current studies and years of practical experience.

The health scientist knows from obesity research that obesity alone increases biological age by 4.5 years. So figure-conscious eating also slows down ageing. In addition to eating lots of vegetables, Dr. Kurscheid recommends a low-carb diet, i.e. the conscious consumption of pasta, pizza and cake: "The PURE study showed in 2017 that life expectancy decreases with increasing carbohydrate consumption." If test subjects in another study replaced carbohydrates with protein and carbohydrates from plant-based, high-fiber sources, they lived longer.

Test your biological age

The doctor has developed a test to measure your biological age. You can find an excerpt from it, which you can use to optimize your diet, below. "Take stock and get started. The sooner you start, the sooner you will benefit from the effects."

It takes 10 minutes after drinking a liter of water for our skin to be better supplied with blood and more oxygen. This was discovered by researchers at the Charité in Berlin. What is the most important fountain of youth for our cells? Without it, we look old!

Anti-ageing food: slow down biological ageing with the right diet

If you want to turn back your biological clock, there's no getting around this in your diet: Antioxidants. They are the natural antagonists of harmful substances that accumulate in the body every day due to environmental pollution and processed food. "Eat up to 1 kilo of vegetables throughout the day, weighed raw," is Dr. Kurscheid's simple recommendation. This puts you on the safe side. Protein from fish and sour milk products as well as healthy fats round off the anti-ageing diet.
