Detoxify your body: Detox tips for liver, kidneys & co.

Fast food, alcohol, coffee, medication and environmental toxins - we absorb harmful substances every day, including through our skin and lungs. As a rule, all the "garbage" is disposed of by our detoxification organs, the liver, kidneys and intestines. In the long term, however, this puts them under stress and they start to go on strike or go limp. This is when we should detoxify our body. Here are the best natural detox tips.

We should detoxify our bodies regularly and restore our acid-base balance.

To prevent this from happening in the first place, you should regularly give your organs a breather, use gentle means to get them going and get rid of dead weight. The result: less discomfort, more power. And one or two pounds less and clearer skin for free. There are many ways to detoxify - most of them can be easily integrated into everyday life. One option is to change your diet to include more alkaline foods.

Balance acidosis with alkaline foods

Unhealthy and sweet foods in particular upset our acid-alkaline balance in the long term. We become acidic. This can manifest itself in chronic complaints, but also in irritability. Acidosis can be balanced out with alkaline foods such as vegetables, fruit, almonds or Brazil nuts. Mineral-rich alkaline powder can also be used to bring the acid-base balance back into balance.

Test: Are you over-acidified?

Detox teas

Detox teas are intended to help the body detoxify, whereby herbal teas, preferably organic, are more suitable than fruit teas. When buying, you should make sure that they are free from added flavorings.

  • Plants such as dandelion, which strengthens the liver, gall bladder and kidneys, digestive fennel or ginger, which gives the metabolism a good boost, are useful.

Artichoke

Go for bitter substances instead of sweets! They help detoxify the body, balance the acid-base balance and help with physical complaints.

  • A classic example of a bitter vegetable is the artichoke, whose bitter substances have not been bred out. It contains a whole cocktail of health-promoting substances, which are mainly found in the leaves. Artichokes stimulate the production of bile so that toxins are broken down. And it helps to digest particularly fatty foods.

Stinging nettle

To help the kidneys do their job, you should drink plenty of fluids regularly. Not just water.

  • Smoothies, juice or tea made from stinging nettle also boost kidney activity. The medicinal plant has a diuretic and blood-purifying effect. This is partly due to its dehydrating flavonoids. On the other hand, the herb is rich in minerals such as potassium, calcium and silicic acid, which gives it an "alkaline" effect and can counteract hyperacidity in the body. Nettle is also a good source of iron and vitamin C.

Milk thistle

Other medicinal plants also have detox effects. The best remedy that nature has in store for a stressed liver is silymarin from milk thistle. A flavonoid mix that ensures that liver-damaging toxins cannot penetrate and improves the detoxification organ's ability to regenerate.

  • For a cure, you can take standardized dry extract from the fruits. This is available as capsules from pharmacies.

Foot baths and pads

You can also detoxify through your feet, for example with the help of a 30 to 60-minute foot bath with alkaline powder or Rügen chalk, which have a deacidifying effect.

  • For overnight detoxification, there are detox patches that are enriched with bamboo vinegar and tourmaline, for example. They are applied to the soles of the feet before going to bed.

Yoga exercises

Some yoga poses keep the metabolism going and help to get rid of toxins. Twists in particular, such as the twisting pose, stimulate the digestive organs.

  • And by breathing out deeply, up to 70 percent of all harmful substances that we take in through the air are expelled.

Juice fasting - with celery

Juice fasting for several days, also known as a "cleanse", gives the digestive system a breather. Cold-pressed juices are used, which you can mix yourself or order online.

  • Celery juice, for example, is very popular. Rich in potassium, calcium and magnesium, it is said to flush out toxins, regulate digestion and be a real energy drink. It is also low in calories.

Body peels: clear the way for new cells

Detoxing can also be done externally: a body scrub gives the skin new radiance, removes the gray veil of dead skin cells and clears the way for fresh cells. You can buy it ready-made. However, you can also easily mix your own using 1 tbsp sugar and 2 tbsp olive oil. Then massage the paste into the still slightly damp skin in circular movements. Ayurveda experts swear by the massage with the raw silk glove: it activates the metabolism and gets the lymph flowing.
