My year of happiness: old habits out, new joie de vivre in

The new year has begun and twelve months full of opportunities lie ahead of us. Let's create space for what is good for us and enriches us by saying goodbye to old habits. This will give us much more room for new joie de vivre.

You can't force happiness, but you can invite it: Let go of old baggage and make room for new things.

Do you know this too? As wonderfully indulgent as we are with others, we are often harsh with ourselves. We often justify ourselves and belittle ourselves in the process. We want to be there for others and put our own wishes on the back burner. It's as if we don't deserve to find happiness. Yet it is right in front of us. If we free ourselves from some old burdens and treat ourselves more lovingly in future, we can recognize it much more easily - and access it to lead a happier life in the long term. To be happy and to share this happiness with others: what a gift! So, what to wait for?

Put an end to it: Get rid of old habits

Compare yourself

We know: There will always be someone who is a little prettier, smarter and slimmer. We also know that comparing ourselves doesn't help. It just puts you in a bad mood. Stop! We are not perfect. But we're good as we are.

Saying yes too often

A request that we can't refuse someone, a task that we "just" do for others - and we've already taken on the role of the person who always jumps in. No more in future, because "no" is also a great word.

Turning down help

Sure, we'd prefer to do everything on our own, to deal with our grief ourselves ... We forget how many lovely people there are around us who are there to help us. Together we are strong.

Living in yesterday

We think about the past, ask ourselves whether we could have done this or that better. We think about tomorrow, consider what awaits us and whether we are well enough prepared. And today? We lose sight of that. It's much nicer to live in the moment.

Avoid mistakes

For fear of doing something wrong and not living up to certain expectations, we don't even dare to tackle some tasks. What great opportunities we miss out on as a result. Only when we make mistakes and learn from them do we make progress.

Distort criticism

Everyone screws up sometimes. But when the other person criticizes us, we often take it personally straight away. We then quickly think "I can't do anything" or "I'm not good enough for this". Which is not true, of course. From now on, we remain objective and confident.

Being restless

We take work home with us, run from one appointment to the next, try to juggle family and household - and constantly ask ourselves: Is the week over already? Too bad! Breaks are important to pause, recharge and enjoy life.

Accumulating ballast

Somehow it gives you a feeling of security: collecting everything, clinging to habits. But this feeling is deceptive. The more we accumulate, the more we weigh ourselves down. The new year is ideal for a thorough clear-out - especially mentally.

I'll start with that now

Accept praise

When was the last time we gratefully accepted compliments such as "well done" or "looks great on you" without watering them down? In future, we will be genuinely happy about them and boost our self-confidence. Here's how!

Being able to enjoy

We've really hit the jackpot in the canteen, and a moist piece of chocolate cake is tempting for dessert? Great! Because now we can allow ourselves to enjoy it. Without a guilty conscience. And not just on public holidays.

Love our weaknesses

Are we impatient, shy or brood too much? Let's gain something positive from these supposed weaknesses: we work quickly without dawdling. We can take a step back and are not pushy. And we think carefully before making decisions. Pretty strong, isn't it?

Learning new things

Staying in the same old routine makes you unhappy in the long run. Yet there are so many exciting things to discover. Haven't we always wanted to try a salsa course? Spice up our English skills? The best time to try something new is now!

Take care of yourself

Of course, it's the inner values that count. But now is also the time to pay more attention to our bodies and show them that we value them: with a wellness program, plenty of exercise in the fresh air, vitamin-rich food...

Have confidence

No more self-blocking! We believe in ourselves and our abilities. We take on new challenges and look forward to the unknown. We enter the new year with confidence. Our motto: anything is possible.

5 tips that make you instantly happy

1 Just laugh it off: even if we are grinning for no reason, happiness hormones are released.

2 Sniff fragrances: Pleasant smells generate positive feelings. Put on your favorite perfume!

3 Meet friends: Familiar people make us feel valuable and unique.

4 Dress stylishly: the way you want to be seen by others. Makes us more self-confident.

5 Keep a to-do list: get rid of the annoying to-do and tick off what we have already achieved.
